Nancy was born in Orange, CA on May 17, 1939. She attended St. John's Lutheran Church from 1945-1953. She attended Orange High School from 1953 to 1957. She received her Bachelor's degree from Stanford University in 1961. That year, she began what has become a distinguished and passionate career in education spanning 50 years.Â
After two years at Redeemer Lutheran Church and School in Redwood City, California, a few miles south of her Alma Mater, Stanford, Nancy returned to her roots and began a teaching tenure of 10 years at St. John's Lutheran Church and School. Although she had a brief post as a 1st-grade teacher, the bulk of her career at St. John's was spent teaching and coaching 7th and 8th grade students.Â
In 1975, she joined the staff of the newly established Orange Lutheran High School in Orange, California, as a teacher and coach. Since 1975, Nancy, or "Miss Paul", as the Lancer family knows her, has touched the lives of thousands of Orange Lutheran students as both a teacher and a coach.Â
In the classroom, she has taught both English and Math; she has chaired the English and P.E. departments.Â
She has worn a multitude of hats in Orange Lutheran athletics. She was the head coach of the softball team from 1975-1987 and the JV coach for both Girls Volleyball and Basketball teams from 1975 to the mid-1980s. She began the tennis program in 1987 and coached both JV and Varsity until 1995. She has served as Athletic Director twice, being honored as CIF Athletic Director of the Year - the first in 1980 and again in 1986.Â
Known for her eloquent and poignant prayers at home games, Nancy is a fixture on both the football field and the basketball court. An attendee of more than 1,400 games during her tenure, Nancy has kept the stats for both sports since 1975 and can often recall opponents, scores, locations, and players for each. Orange Lutheran's gym court was named in her honor in 2011.Â
Nancy is a devoted sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and great aunt. She is the eldest of four siblings: two sisters, Carolyn and Sue, and a brother named Don, who is deceased. She has two brothers-in-law, Jack and Steve, and a sister-in-law, Shannon. She thoroughly enjoys spending time with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.Â
At Orange Lutheran, Nancy is beloved by alumni and students alike, respected by her colleagues, and is the beloved matriarch of the Lancer legacy.Â
