Athletic Career at Orange Lutheran
Soccer and track were Michael's primary sports at Orange Lutheran. He was Olympic League MVP and First-Team All CIF/SS in 1988 for soccer, and took fifth in CIF/SS in the 800M later that spring. These and other accolades garnered Mike his nomination by the Orange County Athletic Directors' Association for Orange County Athlete of the Year - Orange Lutheran's first male nominee. He also participated in student government, serving as junior class president and ASB president his senior year.Â
Post High School Experiences
Michael attended Christ College Irvine (now Concordia University - Irvine) where he played soccer and captained the team for three years. He also started its men's club volleyball program. The team was a member of the National Club Volleyball Federation and played in the national tournament in 1991 and 1992. He studied pre-med at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri from 1992-1994.Â
