Through coaching, Del Montell has blessed the Orange Lutheran campus and athletes for the last 24 years.
Montell began coaching soccer at Orange Lutheran in 1989. He began as the boys JV coach but quickly moved to varsity and began to grow the boys and girls programs. During Coach Montell's tenure at OLu, he won four league titles with the boys in 1990, 1996, 1997, and 1998, as well as four league titles with the girls program in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2006. To cap it off, Montell won three CIF titles, on with the boys program in 1999 and two with the girls program in 1999 and 2006. Montell won the only CIF boys title and the first CIF girls title ont he same night, on the same field, in back-to-back games. The girls defeated Ontario Christian, and immediately following the team picture, Coach Montell rallied the boys team, defeating Carpenteria.
Montell retired from coaching at the end of the 2016 girls season. Aside from coaching soccer, in Montell's career, he coached the kickers on the football team for over a decade. He also coached the sprinters and the long jumpers in track for three years.
Coach Montell has one of the most generous hearts we've seen on the OLu campus. He was and continues to be an important mentor to many of our players, students, and faculty members.
