Orange Lutheran Celebrates Kristen Sherman's Legacy as She Accepts Collegiate Coaching Role

Orange Lutheran High School announces that Head Girls Flag Football Coach Kristen Sherman has accepted a new role as Assistant Flag Football Coach at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where she will continue her coaching career at the collegiate level alongside her husband.

Sherman launched the Orange Lutheran Flag Football program in 2023, guiding the Lancers through their inaugural season and establishing an immediate standard of excellence. What began as a new addition to the athletics program quickly became one of the premier flag football programs in California under her leadership.

"Great things can happen when you 'get out of the boat' and trust God with the outcome," Sherman shared. "I truly believe that has been the story of this program."

In just three seasons, Sherman led the Lancers to an overall record of 67–14, a testament to the culture of discipline, preparation, and unity she cultivated from day one. The program captured back-to-back Trinity League Championships in 2023 and 2024. Her 2024 team delivered a historic 23–2 season, securing the CIF Southern Section Division I Championship and firmly positioning Orange Lutheran among the state's elite programs. This past season, the Lancers continued their success with a 24–3 record and a CIF Southern Section Division I Finals appearance in 2025.

Sherman's excellence was recognized throughout the region and beyond. Following the 2024 championship season, she was named the Los Angeles Chargers Flag Football Coach of the Year, CIF Southern Section Division I Coach of the Year, and the Orange County Register's All-County Coach of the Year. In 2025, she served as Head Coach for the NFL Flag High School Girls Showcase, further affirming her influence in the continued growth and visibility of girls flag football at both the regional and national levels.

"Coach Sherman built more than a championship program; she built women of character," said Jon Spencer, Assistant Principal of Athletics. "Her leadership empowered young women to compete fearlessly, grow in confidence, and represent Orange Lutheran with excellence. We are deeply grateful for her vision and dedication."

Beyond wins and awards, Sherman's greatest impact has been on her student-athletes, mentoring them in character, resilience, and leadership both on and off the field. Within Orange Lutheran's Christ-centered mission, she invested in the growth of young women not only as competitors but as people of faith and integrity. As the program's founding head coach, she established a strong foundation and a championship standard that will continue to shape the future of Orange Lutheran Flag Football.

Orange Lutheran congratulates Coach Sherman on this well-earned opportunity at Cal Poly and thanks her for the lasting legacy she leaves in the Lancer community, a legacy that reflects what it means to be strengthened by Christ and prepared for life.
