Two Winter Sports Made History Last Weekend

Both boys soccer and girls wrestling made history over the weekend...

Boys soccer advanced to the CIF-SS Open Division Finals over the weekend with a 3-1 win at Valencia/Placentia on Saturday, making it a 4-1 aggregate victory in the semifinals for the Lancers. Goals in the game came from Kyler Firouznam, Dylan Rodriguez, and Caleb Rodriguez. This marks the third time in 4 years that the boys soccer team has made the CIF Finals, with the last championship victory coming in 2023 in Division 4, as well as a Division 1 runner-up in 2024. The championship game will be played on Saturday, February 28 at 6:00 PM at Fred Kelly Stadium against Mater Dei.

Beginning with CIF-SS Finals on February 13-14 11 Lancers received CIF medals, as well as crowning the third CIF Champion in school history, freshman Alexa Smith became the first freshman in school history to win a CIF Championship. At the CIF-SS Masters Meet, comprised of nearly 600 schools, Alexa rose to the occasion and upset the #23 wrestler in the nation to become OLu's first-ever Masters Champion. Senior Jennifer Cisneros also finished 4th, making her the 2nd athlete ever to qualify for the state tournament twice. Alexa and Jennifer will head to the CIF-State tournament, beginning on February 26-28 in Bakersfield, California.
