Girls Basketball and Soccer Both Advance in CIF Playoffs

The double header kicked off on Montell Field where girl's soccer played host to the Huskies from Chino Hills in a CIF Division 1 opening round match up. The Lancers scored the loan goal of the first half off the foot of Junior Sofia Wolf from an assist by Sophomore Karis Buehler. The Huskies tied the game early in the second half but 3 minutes later Sophomore Ava Harrison got the lead back for the Lancers with an assist by Junior Charlotte Kamansky. Charlotte then gave the Lancers a 3-1 lead from the penalty spot. Freshman Paityn Miller added the finishing touch with a goal off of an assist from Senior Joey Birkbeck making it a final score of 4-1. They will now travel to San Juan Hills for a second round match up on Saturday, February 14 at 5:00 PM. 

The campus then turned it's attention to the Ellwein Center where girls basketball hosted the Warriors from West Torrance. After a close first half,  the teams went into their locker rooms tied at 24. The Lancers came out in the third quarter with tons of energy, leading to a margin of 12-2, making it 36-26. Keeping their foot on the gas pedal in the fourth quarter, the Lancers took down the Huskies 56-35. Junior Jocelyn Thompson led the team with 15 points and 14 rebounds, while Freshman Kinley Calvert added 13 points, and sophomore Olivia Taleon also had 11 points. They now advance to CIF round 2 and will travel to Marlborough on February 14 at 6:00 PM.
