In the first College Commitment Day of the 2024-2025 academic year, Orange Lutheran celebrated 18 student athletes from across eight sports as they committed to continuing their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level.
 
Orange Lutheran Athletic Director Karen Kekipi welcomed family and friends of the athletes at the Ellwein Center on November 13 to honor the senior Lancers' accomplishments.
 
"Thank you so much for being here today as we celebrate these amazing young men and women reaching their goal to compete at the next level," said Kekipi. "This accomplishment speaks so much to each of your characters in remaining diligent and disciplined to work hard to achieve this goal…We in the athletic department and across campus are so proud of all of you.
 
"And we know that none of this would be possible without the incredible support of your parents, families and friends," continued Kekipi. "It is your loved ones who supported you along the way and helped you achieve this incredible goal. A big thank you goes out to our coaches as well for their servant hearts and for their continued mentorship and tireless efforts in supporting each and every one of you. They've played such a large role in your lives, and we're blessed to have them as part of our Orange Lutheran athletic department.
 
"Remember to remain steadfast in the Lord, as he will carry you through, and never forget that his love is abundant and unconditional."
 
 
Women's Water Polo
 
The OLu girls water polo program celebrated five senior athletes who have committed to playing at the next level.
 
Kyla Pranajaya
 
Starting goalkeeper for the Lancers, Kyla Pranajaya will be continuing her water polo career at San Diego State University. Pranajaya was a key contributor to OLu's undefeated season last year and helped guide the team CIF-SS and CIF State Regional championships.
 
"From the moment I stepped onto this campus I was struck by her commitment to both her team and her craft," said OLu girls water polo head coach Brenda Villa of Pranajaya. "As she starts her final chapter as an OLu player, I am reminded of Kyla's leadership. She has the unique ability to step up and ask the tough questions that her teammates might hesitate to ask, leading by example in and out of the water. And for that, I am deeply grateful."
 
Villa recognized Pranajaya's resilience, and how she models selflessness, a strong work ethic and a relentless drive to make those around her better.
 
"I want to thank everyone who has supported me throughout the years, from my teammates, coaches and especially my family," said Pranajaya. "Without my parents, none of this would have been made possible, sitting in the stands cheering me on at age six all the way to my senior year. I know they and God will continue to watch over me as I head into college. I'm very excited. Go Aztecs!"
 

Jailynn Robinson
 
Reigning CIF Player of the Year Jailynn Robinson is heading to UCLA to continue her water polo career. A member of OLu's championship team from the last two seasons, Robinson is also the current Trinity League MVP and OC Register Player of the Year.
 
"One word that comes to mind when I think of Jailynn is coachable," said Villa. "She is always open to feedback, willing to learn and eager to improve. Whether it's a new skill, play or a different perspective on the game, Jailynn approaches each lesson with a growth mindset. She doesn't just listen to instructions. She actively works to apply them, constantly refining her skills and pushing her boundaries…Her humility and dedication inspires everyone around her to do their best."
 
As one who leans on her faith in the face of challenges, Villa acknowledged that Robinson's heart and work ethic will allow her to achieve even greater accomplishments at UCLA.
 
"I want to thank my coaches Brenda, Edgar, Tony and Rico, as well as my coaches from Pegasus Water Polo Academy," said Robinson. "It has been an incredible journey. Most of all, I want to thank my parents for being my biggest supporters and helping my dream to play at UCLA come true."
 
 
Kate Sloman
 
Four-year varsity water polo player Kate Sloman has committed to USC. The CIF and All-League honoree came up big with four goals in last year's CIF championship game against Mater Dei.
 
"Kate's loyalty is evident in so many aspects of her life - loyalty to her team, loyalty to the success of our program and loyalty to her own personal growth," said Villa. "She doesn't just show up for practice, she shows up with a heart full of commitment ready to give her best…When things get tough, Kate is the teammate who sticks by your side. She encourages others, lifts them up and reminds them of their strength. Her loyalty to the success of this team is unwavering, and that kind of dedication inspires all of us to do the same."
 
Villa reflected on Sloman's constant devotion to her team, despite playing through challenges or injuries, and the fierceness she exhibits in backing up her teammates in the pool.
 
"I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported me on my athletic journey," said Sloman. "From my coaches who believed in my potential to my teammates who pushed me to be better every day, your encouragement has been so important to me. Thank you to my family for always being my biggest fans, and to all the mentors who guided me along the way. I wouldn't be where I am today without your constant support and belief in me."
 
 
Michelle Urkov
 
All-League Lancer Michelle Urkov has signed with University of California, Irvine to continue her water polo career.
 
[Michelle] never backs down from a challenge, and at times, she makes me question my own expectations of her teammates," said Villa. "Michelle always believes they can do more, swim faster, and I believe her…Her ability to balance it all while maintaining such a positive can-do attitude is inspiring. I have no doubt that she will continue to achieve great things and leave a lasting impact on everyone she meets."
 
Not only an accomplished water polo player and member of OLu's two-time championship team, Urkov is part of USA Bodysurfing's Team USA and was one of four women to represent North America in the 2024 International Bodysurfing Association (IBSA) World Tour Finals in Hawaii last June.
 
"I am beyond excited to share that I've committed to play D1 water polo at University of California, Irvine," said Urkov. "I want to thank my family, friends, teammates and coaches for pushing me to become the best version of myself, both in and out of the water. I could not have reached this point without the unwavering support, guidance and encouragement from all of you. I am eager to see what the future holds." #ZotZot
 
 
Addison Wedding
 
Senior Lancer Addison Wedding has committed to play water polo for Bucknell University. A state champion and MVP in her home state of Missouri, Wedding came to OLu to challenge herself and expand her water polo skills.
 
"I am sure this decision wasn't easy, but Addison's courage to step out of her comfort zone has been key to her growth as a player and as a person," said Villa. "Addison's willingness to push herself is a true testament to her strength and determination, and it's clear that this courage will continue to drive her success this year in the pool and next year as she embarks on her new chapter to Bucknell."
 
Villa cited Wedding's courage and bravery in pursuing her dreams, even when it meant taking on new challenges in an unfamiliar environment.
 
"I would like to thank my family, coaches and teammates from Saint Louis and California who have gotten me to this moment," said Wedding. "I want to give a special thank you to my mom and dad who have helped me pursue my dreams of playing water polo at the highest level."
 
 
Softball
 
Four senior athletes from OLu's softball program made commitments to continue their playing careers at the collegiate level.
 
Grace Harrison
 
Three-year varsity player Grace Harrison will be joining the softball program at Biola University. The senior plays first base for the Lancers and is an All-Trinity League honoree.
 
"She's got gap-to-gap power, is a very hard worker, and I'm really excited to see what she does for us in her final year here," said OLu softball head coach Steve Miklos of Harrison. "Biola is a great fit, and we're so proud of her and so excited to see what she's going to do at the next level."
 
Harrison showed gratitude to her family and those who helped her reach her goal of competing at the collegiate level.
 
"I would like to thank everyone who has supported me along this journey," said Harrison. "A special thanks to my parents and family for always believing in me and being by my side throughout everything. Most importantly, I would like to thank God for blessing me with this opportunity as I can't wait to see what this future has in store."
 
 
Chloe McGreevey
 
Lancer softball outfielder Chloe McGreevey is headed to Idaho State University. The three-year varsity player transferred to OLu as a sophomore and has been a strong contributor to the program.
 
"One thing I like about Chloe is she always comes to practice with a smile on her face," said Miklos. "She works really hard. She's really dedicated herself to improving herself in her sport, and it's really paid off. She's an asset to our team…We're so proud of everything Chloe has accomplished, and we look forward to what she's going to do for us this year."
 
Excited for her next chapter, McGreevey is grateful to those who have been instrumental in helping her achieve her athletic and academic goals.
 
"Firstly, I want to thank my family for the dedication and support to accomplish my dreams," said McGreevey. "I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for all of your guidance and encouragement. I am grateful for everyone along this journey."
 
 
Kai Minor
 
Reigning two-time Trinity League MVP Kai Minor has committed to the University of Oklahoma for softball, a program that is the current NCAA Division 1 champions, a title they have held for the last four years. A top-tier five-tool player, Minor is one of the most decorated athletes to come through OLu's softball program.
 
"I've watched her mature and grow as a fine young lady and watched her assume a role of leadership her senior year, mentoring our younger players," said Miklos of Minor. "I'm excited she's been in our program, and I'm really excited to see what she's going to do this year."
 
Among Minor's many accolades, the four-year varsity outfielder is a California State Player of the Year, a MaxPrep All-American and an All-CIF honoree.
 
"I would like to thank God, my family, coaches and peers for shaping me into the woman I am today," said Minor. "My softball career has been a complete roller coaster, but everyone that has been by my side has truly impacted the way I look at my sport and at life. I'd also like to thank my college coaches, Coach Gasso, JT, Coach Rocha and Coach Steele for giving me the opportunity to fulfill my childhood dreams of playing at the University of Oklahoma."
 
 
Ava Norton
 
Lancer senior Ava Norton is headed to Delta State University to continue her softball career. The two-year varsity pitcher keeps players off balance with her spin, changeup and curveball.
 
"I've always appreciated Ava in our program," said Miklos. "She's always fulfilled whatever role the coaches have asked her to do. She set a goal for herself, and she worked really hard to achieve that goal and that's to play at the next level. She's a great kid, a hard worker…and I look forward to see what Ava's going to do for us this year."
 
Norton is grateful to those in her support system who helped her take this next step.
 
"First, I would like to thank God for blessing me with the skills that have allowed me to play at the collegiate level," said Norton. "Next, I would like to thank my family and coaches for always being my biggest fans and pushing me to become the best version of myself. I would also like to thank all of my teachers that taught me not only school subjects but also important life lessons. Lastly, I would like to thank all of my friends and teammates that have made softball a safe space for me."
 

Football
 
AJ Ia
 
Tight end AJ Ia has committed to play football at Arizona State University. The four-year varsity player and All-Trinity League honoree has played a key role in the success of OLu's football program in recent years.
 
"He's always been a tremendous pass catcher, but he's worked incredibly hard to become a dominant blocker," said OLu football head coach Rod Sherman of Ia. "He's been a huge asset this year as a situational defensive player for us as well…He can do so many things for us on the football field…I can't wait to watch his future. It's going to be incredible."
 
Considered one of the top high school tight ends in the country, Ia is thankful for those around him who have been instrumental in helping him achieve this next step in his playing career.
 
"I thank all my coaches who've helped me along my football journey," said Ia. "Your patience, hard work and dedication to a hard-headed kid means a whole lot. A special thank you to my parents for keeping me in the right headspace and making sure I didn't quit when I wanted to. Shoutout to all of my sisters, because they were my biggest support system, through anything. And the utmost love to all of my family, friends and supporters. I love you all."
 
 
TJ Lateef
 
Lancer quarterback and three-year starter TJ Lateef is headed to the University of Nebraska. Like his teammate AJ Ia, Lateef has been instrumental in both the competitive growth and culture development of OLu's football program.
 
"He came here, took a chance on a new staff and quickly asserted himself as someone who was going to change the culture of this program," said Sherman. "When you see him, you see young players gravitate to him, and you never see him push young guys away. You always see him embrace the opportunity to be a great teammate."
 
As a standout player in a high-level position, Sherman noted that Lateef has navigated the challenges that come with that role with grace and composure.
 
"Thank you, Dad, Mom and coaches, for your support and belief in me," said Lateef. "Your encouragement, sacrifices and guidance have helped shape who I am today. With God's guidance and your support, my dreams are becoming a reality. I am incredibly grateful and feel blessed to have the opportunity to play football at the collegiate level."
 
 
Women's Volleyball
 
Jaedyn Houston
 
Lancer libero Jaedyn Houston has committed to play volleyball at California State University, Long Beach. The four-year starter is a multiple All-League selection and holds the OLu record for 1,500+ digs.
 
"Your energy, spirit, so infectious, and your willingness to cover every inch of the court…and your support for your teammates has truly made a difference these past four years," said OLu girls volleyball head coach Henry Valiente of Houston. "Each dig you make here for the team reflects all your hard work, perseverance and the commitment to your game. You've pushed yourself every season, and it's been great to see how you've developed as a strong player and a supportive friend to all your teammates…As you head into your new chapter at Long Beach, remember to keep reaching for your goals and trust your process."
 
Houston is also a leader for the Lancers on the sand as a standout beach volleyball player paired with her younger sister, Kenzie.
 
"I would like to thank mother, Stacey, and father, Gene, for being my biggest fans and supporters," said Houston. "Thank you for teaching me to love the game. I'd also like to thank my sisters Makena and Kenzie for teaching me how to be competitive and for loving me. Thank you to my coaches that have spent countless hours giving their knowledge and having faith in my potential. Lastly, I'd like to thank Long Beach coaches, Natalie, Bjarne, Jordan and Blake for letting me pursue my dream of playing in the Pyramid."
 
 
Saniya Kimbrough
 
Senior Lancer Saniya Kimbrough has signed to play volleyball at Long Island University. A transfer student this year, Kimbrough found her home at OLu.
 
"Your vibe and your passion for the game created an instant connection with all the coaches and your teammates," said Valiente of Kimbrough. "The hard work you've put in this year has not only elevated your performance but has inspired your teammates to reach new heights. The successes we've enjoyed this season are largely thanks to your fresh energy and perspective on the game. You've become such an essential part of our team, and your impact will be felt long after you moved on. You are forever a Lancer."
 
A four-year varsity starter and multi-year All-League honoree, Kimbrough is thankful to God and all those who have helped her become the athlete and person she is today.
 
"Firstly, I would like to thank God for giving me opportunities that have led me here today," said Kimbrough. "I thank Him for all the struggles and success. I would also like to thank my family, my dad for putting in endless hours working and making sacrifices for our family, my mom for driving hundreds of miles to tournaments, lessons and practices, my brothers for being my number 1 fans, my grandparents for always being there to help and support me and my family. Lastly, I would like to thank the ones who aren't here physically, but forever in my heart. Uncle Terrell, who always showed up to my games, and even when he couldn't, he made sure to watch the live stream. To my grandparents, Pops and Granny, I know that you would be proud of how far I've come today, not only as an athlete, but as a daughter, sister, grandchild and person. Maylynn Mitchell
 
Senior and four-year varsity player Maylynn Mitchell has committed to play volleyball at Chaminade University of Honolulu. A transfer as a junior, Mitchell played an integral part in the OLu program's growth and success.
 
"It's been such a joy to watch you grow as a player," said Valiente of Mitchell. "You've made such an impact on our team, our program, our culture, and I'm so grateful for every moment we've shared…I've always highlighted your killer instinct, your killer mentality, (and) fierce competitive spirit on the court. But then what stands out is your big warm heart off the court. You bring in so much positivity and kindness to our team and all the coaches."
 
Mitchell leads the Trinity League in kills and has reached milestones 1000+ kills and 500+ digs in her high school career.
 
"I first want to thank God for helping me achieve all my goals, and I give all the glory to him for getting me to where I am today," said Mitchell. "Without my savior, I wouldn't have been the athlete or person I've become. I would like to thank my family, friends and coaches for being a part of my journey and for helping me get where I am. I wouldn't have been able to achieve all my accomplishments without the support of my loved ones."
 
 
Women's Basketball
 
Kelly Garrity
 
Two-time CIF champion Kelly Garrity will be heading to Northwest Nazarene University to continue her basketball career. The four-year varsity player is a multiple All-CIF and All-League selection.
 
"Kelly has been a positive influence for others in our community and on our campus," said OLu girls basketball head coach Lindsay Charity. "Her leadership extends naturally onto the court…She's someone her teammates truly respect and look up to, leading by example in everything she does. Her energy and commitment to defense have often been a spark that ignites our team, and she is the glue that holds our group together. Her calm and steady demeanor has been integral to our success."
 
On the court, Garrity has led the team in both deflections and steals and has served the Lancers as a two-year captain.
 
"I'm truly thankful that God has given me this incredible experience here at OLu," said Garrity. "To my family, your constant support and encouragement has been my foundation. To my coaches, thank you for your guidance, wisdom and for pushing me to be my best. And to my teammates, our memories together are unforgettable. Thank you all for being a part of my journey."
 
 
Women's Golf
 
Mason Egdahl
 
Senior golfer Mason Egdahl will be continuing her academic and athletic career at Quinnipiac University. The four-year varsity golfer was a key contributor to the program's first CIF-SS Division 1 championship, a title the Lancers earned earlier this month.
 
"You knew what the expectation was," said OLu girls golf head coach Dustin Boburka of Egdahl. "You knew what it was we wanted in the program, and I can't thank you enough for that. Your leadership, your guidance and setting expectations for our program was awesome…In addition to being an amazing golfer, a great student and a good leader, you love deeply your people out there, your teammates…The Lord's got a plan for you…I can't wait to see it."
 
Egdahl is a three-time 1^st Team All-Trinity League honoree, and three-time CIF Individual Qualifier, a Scholar Athlete and a two-time captain for the Lancers.
 
"First off, I would like to thank my family who have always supported me through all that I do," said Egdahl. "Also my amazing teammates who push me daily to do my best and comfort me on the not so great days. Another big thanks to my coaches who constantly make me the best golfer and person I can be, with lots of laughter included. Finally, the greatest thanks of all is to God, who guides me on the path that was set out for me. I am ecstatic to get the chance to continue playing the game I love on a bigger stage and continue to play for God's glory."
 
 
Women's Diving
 
Makenna Milne
 
Senior diver Makenna Milne has committed to the University of Arizona. A multi-sport athlete with a background in gymnastics, Milne is also a cheer athlete and a captain on OLu's STUNT team.
 
"We all know accomplishments like this don't happen overnight for a multi-sport athlete," said OLu STUNT head coach Shannon May. "It comes from early mornings, late nights, overcoming challenges and pushing through moments when giving up seems like an option. McKenna showed what true commitment looks like. Her determination is a testament to the values she lives by, both in and out of the water."
 
A four-year varsity diver, Milne is a Trinity League Championship qualifier and a CIF qualifier, as well as a Junior Olympic Nationals qualifier.
 
"I would like to thank my family, my teammates and my coaches for believing in me and my goals to dive collegiately," said Milne. "I also thank God for the gifts he has given me and the opportunity to use them for His glory, both in high school and in college."
 
 
Men's Lacrosse
 
Jake Tieskoetter
 
Senior Lancer Jake Tieskoetter has committed to playing lacrosse at Anderson University. The three-time captain for the Lancers is a multi-year All-League honoree.
 
"Jake's growth has been an especially endearing process to watch as all his coaches throughout his high school career have been some of my nearest and dearest friends," said OLu boys lacrosse head coach John Padama. "Jake, coaching you has been nothing short of a gift, but getting to see you grow has been a blessing I'll cherish forever."
 
Tieskoetter is a four-year varsity starter and holds the OLu single-season and career records for points and goals.
 
"I would like to say thank you to my family for always supporting me along this journey," said Tieskoetter. "Also, thank you to all the coaches that have helped during this process, with a huge thank you Coach Albert Mitchell for giving me this opportunity. My faith has been my anchor through life, and this process this wouldn't be possible without God."
