Orange Lutheran High School is pleased to welcome Pete Rocky as the new Head Coach of the Lancer Surf program.
A Santa Barbara native, Pete began surfing at age seven and quickly discovered both a passion for the sport and a deep commitment to his faith. By the time he was 17, he had turned professional, competing on the ASP World Tour (now known as the World Surf League) with the support of major sponsors. His career took him around the globe, where he earned victories at international events and gained lifelong experiences in countries including Australia, Brazil, South Africa, France, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Indonesia, and Japan. He retired from professional competition at the age of 29, following a win at the Fosters Globe Pro in Oceanside, CA.
After his professional career, Pete continued to shape the sport through leadership roles in the surf industry. He served as Editor-in-Chief of Surfing Magazine, worked with Hurley, and later launched his own business serving college students nationwide. Most recently, he has partnered with the Hurley family and world champion John John Florence in the development of Florence's retail brand, while also co-founding a new sunglass company set to launch in 2026.
While Pete's career spans both the competitive and business sides of surfing, he is most excited about this new chapter at Orange Lutheran. "Out of all my accomplishments, I am most proud to be named the new head surf coach at OLu," Pete shared. "I look forward to devoting my time, experience, and energy to ministry work and to the students I'll be coaching."
