2025 Cross Country Season Preview

Off and running with the first races of the season under their belts, the Orange Lutheran cross country team is back in action this month, having already made a strong showing in both the Saddleback Cross Country Cup and the Dana Hills Invitational.

On the boys side of the roster, the Lancers are led by senior and four-year program runner Josh Hight, who is aiming for a strong final season at OLu. The boys team also welcomes a group of freshmen runners that head coach Kristen Goossens is eager to see develop and strengthen the team's depth throughout the season. After the group's summer training trip to Flagstaff, Arizona, Goossens is excited about the team's camaraderie and the promising underclassmen.

"Watching that leadership from the older kids cohesively tie to the younger kids where they see each other as friends and teammates is really great,"  says Goossens.

The girls team includes senior leader and four-year program runner Sarabella Stakely, who is coming off of a strong track season from last spring and is ready to make her mark in her senior year.

"She's such a great vocal leader and connects all of our team members together," says Goossens of Stakely. "She's the epitome of an excellent runner and role model."

The girls roster also features a strong representation of multi-sport athletes, including juniors Grace Anderson and Shaye Holz, as well as sophomore Kamryn Anderson. All three are members of OLu's CIF-winning water polo team, and both Kamryn Anderson and Holz advanced to the 2025 CIF-SS Division 1 Swimming & Diving State Championships last spring.

Also running for the girls squad are sophomore Melody Lopez and freshman Teagan Becerra, both of whom play soccer for OLu. This talented group will continue to test themselves and grow athletically on the course and beyond.

Some key races on OLu's schedule this season include the Clovis Invitational (October 9), OC Championships (October 17) and Trinity League Finals (November 7).

The Lancers next test is September 19 at the Woodbridge Classic held at the Great Park in Irvine. A fast course known for being a favorite with runners, Goossens is looking forward to watching the team push themselves and showcase their progress.

"My ultimate goal," says Goossens, "is to build the program, find ways to set new standards and challenge the team to rise to the occasion."
