2025 Girls Volleyball Season Preview

After a strong showing in last year's CIF playoffs, Orange Lutheran girls volleyball is back on the court and ready for a new season.

Last fall, the Lancers finished second in the highly competitive Trinity League after securing tiebreaker wins over both JSerra and Santa Margarita. OLu then advanced to the CIF Division 2 quarterfinals where they fell to eventual champion Murrieta Valley.

This year, the program will be fielding four teams after seeing nearly 125 athletes participate in tryouts. The varsity roster is a balanced group with veteran leadership from seniors Grace Borgen, Kenzie Houston, Ava Livermore and Lacey Mills.

"I'm looking forward to those four stepping up in leadership roles," says OLu girls volleyball head coach Henry Valiente.

This year's varsity roster also includes a number of talented freshman standouts, including Charlee Bengard, Sienna Cicero and Addy Underwood. Also contributing both on and off the court is junior Marley Robinson.

"Marley has been pivotal in our success these past couple years," says Valiente. "She is also one of the captains we look to to lead the team."

This season's motto, "learn to get better together," reflects the program's emphasis on improvement through unity, something Valiente says the players carry with them into each match.

"Each pregame that we take or each regular season game that we've had so far, I think we are learning and we're getting better," says Valiente.

The Lancers have had a solid start out of the gate, having secured wins against Rancho Christian, Millikan and Roosevelt. Next month, OLu will compete in the Whittier Classic (September 6), as well as the Lancer Invitational hosted by Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson, AZ (September 19). Key nonleague matchups include hosting longtime playoff rival Etiwanda (September 11), and Trinity League contests begin on September 23 when OLu hosts Mater Dei.

Valiente anticipates another strong season and is looking forward to watching this young roster continue to grow together as a team.

"There are a lot of new faces this year, and the coaches and I are working to help them embrace Lancer volleyball and its culture, with the hope that they will grow into strong leaders by the time they are seniors," says Valiente. "I'm just looking forward to seeing the growth in everyone."
