Back to Back Semifinal Appearances for Flag Football

Scoring touchdowns on their first four possessions of the game, Orange Lutheran's Flag Football team, the number 2 seed in the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs, jumped out to a 28-0 lead enroute to a 41-18 victory over San Marcos High School to advance to semifinals.

The Lancer defense quickly forced San Marcos to punt on their first two possessions, setting up two scoring drives by the offense capped by junior Makena Cook touchdown passes of 15 and 5 yards respectively to sophomore Ava Harrison.

After another stop of the Royals offense, Cook connected with freshman Happy Dubois on a 13 yard touchdown pass to cap a 7 play 51 yard drive midway through the 2nd quarter.  On the ensuing possession, senior Julia Oberholtzer intercepted a pass at the San Marcos 33 yard line and scored two plays later on a 26 yard touchdown reception from Cook with 1 minute and 3 seconds remaining in the first half.

San Marcos showed some fight scoring a touchdown to close out the first half, but the fast start by the lancers proved too much to overcome.

Cook finished the game completing 27 of 36 pass attempts for 324 yards and 6 touchdowns.  Dubois led the Lancers in receiving hauling in 7 passes for 81 yards and a touchdown, while Oberholtzer led the defense with the interception and 8 flag pulls.

The semifinal matchup will be played at home on Saturday November 1st against a Huntington Beach (25-1) team that beat Camarillo 19-6 on Tuesday night.
