After bringing home the CIF-SS Division 1 title in 2024, the Orange Lutheran girls golf program is ready to make another championship run.
OLu graduated three key NCAA commits from last year's roster, Jude Lee (Stanford University), Ally Kim (Rice University) and Charlene Woo (Claremont McKenna College). But with a talented group returning and a new generation of Lancers ready to step up, the team is poised to make its own mark on the program.
This year's varsity roster will be led by three captains, senior Gabby Kim, an Amherst College commit, along with juniors Madi Ah You and Myla Robinson. The Lancers will also welcome a talented pair of freshmen to the squad this season in Annie Chi and Victoria Su.
"I love this group because they're young and they're hungry," says OLu girls golf head coach Dustin Boburka. "They want to prove that two years ago wasn't just a flash in the pan. They want to prove that this program is ready to go, and we're going to be around for a while."
With 26 golfers across the JV and varsity teams, the focus this year is on building a cohesive group, developing strong team chemistry and coming together as one unit.
"I think what sets us apart from all the other teams in the Trinity League is our cohesiveness and our bonds together," says Boburka.
This year's schedule brings an added level of difficulty, something Boburka intentionally built in to challenge the Lancers ahead of league and playoff competition. The schedule includes home and away matches against Sage Hill on August 26 and September 16, as well as an appearance at the Brophy Rodeo Invitational, one of the premier high school golf tournaments in the country. The tournament begins September 11 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
OLu will also return to the R. Murphy Invitational at Temecula Creek Inn Golf Course on October 12. Trinity League play begins September 24, when the Lancers take on defending CIF Division 1 champion Santa Margarita.
The season kicks off August 25 when OLu faces Yorba Linda at Black Gold Golf Club. With every opponent bringing its best against the Lancers, Boburka and the coaching staff are embracing the challenge and looking forward to seeing how this young group responds.
"We're playing against much stiffer competition than we did last year," says Boburka. "We're going to get everybody's best swing, and I love that for our team… It's going to be a lot of fun this year to watch them compete, because on any given day, we can go beat anybody."
