Orange Lutheran Names Ray Fenton Head Football Coach

Orange Lutheran High School is pleased to announce Ray Fenton as the next Head Football Coach of the Lancers football program.

Fenton brings more than 40 years of coaching experience across California, Arizona, and Nevada, along with a strong commitment to mentoring student-athletes in both their athletic development and personal growth.

"Coach Fenton understands that football at Orange Lutheran is about more than competition. It is an opportunity to shape young men of character," said Orange Lutheran Head of School Dr. Jack Preus. "He is aligned with our mission and passionate about helping student-athletes pursue excellence while growing in their faith. We are excited to welcome him to the Lancer community."

Fenton began his coaching career at his alma mater, Cypress High School, where he served as an assistant varsity football coach and head track coach. His career later took him to Arizona, where he served as both an assistant and head coach at River Valley High School, leading the program to back-to-back Top 5 state rankings.

He later helped open Foothill High School in Henderson, Nevada, and built the program from its inception, leading the team to the state semifinals and a No. 10 ranking in the Western United States within five years.

Fenton eventually returned to Cypress High School, where his teams reached the semifinals three times in five seasons and captured the CIF championship in 2007. His coaching journey has since included roles at The Webb Schools, Fountain Valley High School, and, most recently, Los Alamitos High School, where the program earned the CIF Division 2 Championship in 2025.

Throughout his career, Fenton has been recognized with numerous coaching honors, including state and regional coach-of-the-year awards.

"I've truly been blessed throughout my coaching career, and I'm incredibly excited for the opportunity to lead the football program at Orange Lutheran," said Fenton. "What makes Orange Lutheran special is its commitment to putting Christ first while mentoring students as they grow in character, purpose, and faith. I believe football is a powerful platform to develop discipline, brotherhood, and servant leadership, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside these young men as they compete and grow together."

The Lancers football program has long been a cornerstone of Orange Lutheran Athletics, competing at the highest levels within the CIF Southern Section while emphasizing character, leadership, and faith.

Fenton will begin his role immediately as preparations for the upcoming season begin.
