The Lancers completed their run to a Divison 1 CIF Title appearance on Friday night, beating Harvard Westlake 2-1 at home on a double overtime penalty kick by
Xavier Alcantar.
Hector Arellanes opened the scoring in the 9th minute to fire OLu to a 1-0 lead. Harvard Westlake evened the game with 4 minutes leading to OT.
In the game's dying seconds, Arellanes dribbled down the right side and was tripped inside the 18-yard box. Alcantar buried the ensuing game-winning penalty kick low on the left side.
The Lancers are making their 2nd straight CIF Championship appearance. Last season, OLu broke a 24-year drought, making the Divison 4 finals en route to beating Littlerock for the schools 2nd championship. This year, after making a 3-division jump to Division 1, OLu finds themselves right back in a championship matchup.
OLu will take on Trinity League foe Servite in the finals on Saturday, February 24. The time and location are TBD. OLu and Servite split the season series, with each winning at home.
