In the rain and under the lights on Montell Field, the
OLu girls flag football team outlasted Canyon in the
CIF-SS Semifinals 19-6 to advance to the state's inaugural CIF Championship game.
Sophomore quarterback
Makena Cook helped the Lancers jump out to a 12-0 lead after two touchdowns to
Josie Anderson. Canyon would tighten the game back up with a TD of their own just before halftime.
In the second half, with Canyon driving, safety Claire Brakefield intercepted the Commanches. Cook and the Lancers capitalized as she hit Brooklyn Vanderkallen for a 6-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 13.
Freshman Capri Cuneo would seal the game with a late interception as the Lancers advanced to the CIF Title game.
#1 Orange Lutheran will play #2 Newport Harbor in the CIF Finals on Saturday, November 9, at 4:45 p.m. at Fred Kelly Stadium.
