Orange Lutheran High School is proud to congratulate Head Baseball Coach
Eric Borba on achieving 500 head coaching career wins. The Lancers' 2 win on 1 over Cypress
secured the milestone for Borba, who is in his 16
th season at OLu.
"Reaching the 500-win total is special, and while I know he will pass the credit along to his players and coaches, we all recognize that what he has been able to accomplish over his career is remarkable," says OLu Baseball Co-Head Coach
RJ Farrell. "Getting to this landmark is not just about teaching baseball skill or being able to manage in-game. Eric has a true passion for others, a commitment to developing young people into servant leaders, and a will to be the best in everything he does. These distinct qualities are passed along to those around him, bettering not only his players but everyone involved with his program. I feel like I am alongside a future hall of famer every day I show up to work."
Borba's tenure at the helm for the Lancers has helped establish OLu Baseball as one of the most recognizable and successful high school programs in the country. He has led the Lancers to five Trinity League championships, three consecutive National High School Invitational (NHSI) titles (2017 – 2019) and multiple 20-win seasons.
Borba has guided OLu to the CIF-SS playoffs in each of the 14 qualifying seasons that he has led the program, including seven quarterfinal and three semi-final appearances. Additionally, OLu has been nationally ranked in the Top 25 for 13 of the last 15 seasons and was named the #2 baseball powerhouse in the U.S. by MaxPreps in 2018.
Over the last 15 years in the head coaching role at OLu, Borba has sent more than 60 players to NCAA Division 1 college baseball programs and has coached 13 Lancers who were selected in the Major League Baseball draft. He has also coached in multiple roles at the national level with USA Baseball, including as an assistant coach for the 2022 18U team that captured the gold medal in the COPABE (Pan American Baseball Confederation) World Cup Qualifier in La Paz, Mexico.
Of more significance than the number of wins Borba has accumulated over his time as a baseball head coach are the countless number of players' lives he has impacted. The leadership and guidance he has provided to hundreds of Lancer student athletes will leave an indelible mark for years to come.
"Coach Borba exemplifies what it means to be a strong leader for our campus and our community," says OLu Athletic Director Karen Kekipi. "His passion for developing student athletes and building strong men of character, while keeping The Lord at the front of all he does, is what sets Coach Borba apart from others in the profession. It is an honor to be a part of this amazing milestone and celebrate alongside with him!"
