For only the 2nd time in school history, the boys basketball team knocked off Mater Dei 80-72 in front of a capacity crowd inside the Ellwein Center.
The Lancers jumped out to a 9-point advantage after one quarter, but the Monarchs outscored OLu 25-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 5-point lead to the break.
In the 3rd, Mater Dei led the majority of the quarter until late when OLu capitalized on consecutive 3's. At the end of 3, the Lancers had pulled ahead by 1. They kept the momentum going jumping out to an 8-point cushion midway through the 4th. That was enough as the Lancers went on to win.
Zion Paleo and Cannon Potter each had 20 points, while David Manea put in 18, and Javon Smith hit some key 3's ending with 11. John Gazzaniga was a monster on defense, with several blocks and 6 points.
OLu is back in action on Friday against St. John Bosco at 7:30 on the road.
