The OLu Football team moved to 2-0 after traveling north and knocking off perennial power De La Salle 35-14 on Friday night.
It was an offensive affair early as both teams traded multiple touchdowns. TJ Lateef found Joseph De La Torre for the first score early in the first. After the Spartans tied it at 7, Lateef got his 2nd of the day when he found Aaron Ia on the last play of the first quarter to take a 14-7 lead. The first half ended 14-14.
OLu took control in the 3rd. Steve Chavez broke the tie with a 3-yard score on their first drive of the 3rd quarter. Following a great play by Wes Barksdale to strip a Spartan receiver of the ball following a 30-yard pass, Chavez struck again. He broke a 58-yard touchdown late in the 3rd to give OLu a 28-14 lead. Chavez added his 3rd score late in the 4th to extend the lead to 21. He had 150 yards rushing and three scores.
The Lancer defense was vital in the victory. After giving up touchdowns on their first two drives, the Lancers locked down, shutting out De La Salle the rest of the way.
OLu will return home to take on Eastside Catholic (Washington) on Friday night at Orange Coast College. Gametime is set for 7 p.m.
