The OLu hockey team fell in game 2 of the USA Hockey National Championships on Friday morning, 4-3, to New Green Trier (Illinois) in a shootout.
The Lancers started slowly conceding two early goals to fall into a 2-0 deficit. JJ Dean scored his 2nd of the tourney with 8 minutes remaining in the first to cut the lead in half, but New Green made it a 2-goal lead again early in the 2nd period.
OLu didn't quit, though. Tyler Schoffstall scored with 7:14 to go in the 2nd to cut it to a goal. The Lancers tied it with a minute left in the 2nd when Ethan Overman scored unassisted.
The score remained that way into the shootout, where New Green Trier converted 3 of their four chances while OLu went scoreless.
After two games, the Lancers are in 2nd place in the American Division of the USA Hockey National Championship. Tomorrow they face Denver East with a win securing a spot in the semifinal round for the first time in school history. Faceoff is set for 4:45 pacific time and can be watched live at usahockeytv.com.
