Tip off for the Orange Lutheran girls basketball season begins Monday, November 15, when the Lancers take on Fountain Valley in the Villa Park-Portola Kick Off Classic.
OLu finished their abbreviated season last year in 3rd place in the Trinity League and did so without any seniors on their roster. This year’s varsity squad has a balance of talent from across all grade levels, and OLu girls basketball head coach Lindsay Charity is confident that a full season will be a renewed sense of focus.
“We’re young, but we’re also bringing back some experienced players,” says Charity. “Being able to have full practices and knowing when we’re going to have games has helped us be able to lock in and plan effectively. To have some normalcy has helped us all mentally.”
The Lancers have three returning All-Trinity League players who will be leading the way as they compete for a spot in the CIF-SS Division 2AA playoffs. Sophomores Shea Joko (1st Team All-League) and Taliyah McFerson (2nd Team All-League), along with junior Madi Bogan (2nd Team All-League), are all poised to have strong seasons.
With a schedule that includes games against Division 2AA opponents Brea Olinda and Sage Hill, as well as nationally ranked Sierra Canyon, the Lancers are eager to get their season underway.
“Knowing that we’re going to have a full season…that’s what we are really looking forward to,” says Charity. “And having a group that’s all in on being at this school and being on this team and has bought in to what we’re all about. Our biggest goal is to play our best every game. It doesn’t matter who we’re playing…just play our best game and play with each other and for each other is the overall goal this season.”
