As was mentioned in the Community Update that went out related to athletics on June 22, Orange Lutheran was able to successfully reopen with a limited number of programs on June 29. At that time, the school was and has been fully compliant with all state, regional, CIF, and NFHS guidelines. School administration continues to be in close communication with these organizations and based on recent information from the California Department of Public Health, as well as an abundance of caution, we will be suspending in-person athletics at this time. Prioritizing the health and safety of our community is always our top priority. In addition, we remain committed to working in accordance with all of the aforementioned guidelines to return to in-person athletics in the safest way possible when permissible.
We fully acknowledge that this news comes with a flood of emotions. Our sports medicine staff, sports performance coaches, coaching staff, and athletes have all worked diligently to ensure that adherence to our guidelines were being followed correctly. As a result, we were able to resume in-person activity safely. We recognize that this will affect everyone differently and we hope you know how much we appreciate the incredible team effort that has gone into all of this.
While we are prayerful we can resume in the coming days or weeks, we do not have a specific time frame at this particular moment for when we will be able to return to in-person athletics again or when updated guidance from state and local authorities will be provided. If you should have any questions or concerns about this, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Interim Director of Athletics, Karen Kekipi, at [email protected]
