The Athletics Minute is a recap of the prior week's action in Lancer varsity sports.
Dieter Kelly drilled a 34-yard field goal with under a minute left to propel the Lancers to victory 23-21 in a tight affair against Edison on Friday night. The Lancers never led until the final minute on Kelly’s field goal. Senior quarterback Logan Gonzalez was efficient going 19 for 27 for 272 yards and 2 touchdown passes. Senior running back Desmin Jackson was electric catching 6 passes for 90 yards and a score and rushing for 102 yards on 20 carries. Next up for OLu is a date with Damien this Friday at 7 pm on the road. The game will be live streamed by the NFHS network and can be watched by clicking HERE.

It was a perfect 2-0 week for the Lancers as they knocked off Foothill and Edison in consecutive nights to improve to 3-1. The Lancers took Foothill to 5 sets winning 3-2. They were led by Paige Buzzerio who had 26 total kills. Viviana Fragoso had 4 aces on 13 attempts. The next day OLu took Edison to five sets and won again with a decisive 15-7 win in the 5th. OLu got contributions from up and down the lineup in the win. Paige Buzzerio led the way with 21 kills while Alexis Dennick had 7 and Londyn Giles, Kennedy Cunningham, and Sophia Zazueta each had 6. Claire Underwood had 5 blocks while Lily Underwood had 14 digs.
OLu has a busy week ahead as they host St. Margarets and Esperanza and then travel to the Whittier Cardinal Classic on Friday and Saturday. Both home games will be streamed and can be watched by clicking HERE.

The girls golf team went 2-1 during a busy 3 match week. They opened up the week beating El Dorado 213-223 and finished the week with an impressive road victory over Canyon 210-217. Stella Fergin shot a career-low 37 against El Dorado and followed it up with a 40 against Canyon. Mason Egdahl shot a 37 in the victory over Canyon. Alice Zhou was super consistent shooting a 41, 42, and another 41 during the 3 matches. It’s another busy week for the Lancers as they host Canyon and play Marina twice this coming week.
Boys Water Polo
The boys water polo team crushed Garces Memorial on Wednesday by a score of 23-5. The win helped OLu start the season 2-0. Things ramp up this coming week as they play today vs Huntington Beach.
Recently, the OC Register released their top 10 rankings for teams in Orange County. The Lancers came in at #7. As a part of the season preview, they also had players to watch and seniors Conor Brough and Reed Pantaleon were named to the watch list.

The girls tennis team went 1-1 during their 2 match week. They opened up with a 13-5 win over Esperanza and then fell to Foothill in a tight 10-8 battle. The girls are 3-1 on the year with matches against Crean and Troy this coming week.
What an opening weekend it was for the Lancers cross country team at the Fastback Shootout at Mt. Sac. The boys had a strong showing with Noah Lockwood finishing 7th overall with a 10:36 2 mile run. Teammate Ethan Pacholl ran a 10:54 good for 14th and Nathaniel Patton finished 24th with an 11:10 time. The girls finished 2nd overall in the senior division. Lolo Landrith posted a time of 13:12 good enough for 12th overall. Tegan Cheek placed 24th, Sophia Gibson was 30th, and Rahni Reed 32nd. The field consisted of 106 runners. The Lancers are off this weekend and will pick back up on September 17 at the Woodbridge Invitational.
