The Athletics Minute is a recap of the prior week's action in Lancer varsity sports.
The Lancers had their lone bye week this past week. They will open league play on Thursday, September 30 vs Servite at Orange Coast College. The kickoff is slated for 7:30 pm. Heading into the contest the Lancers are ranked #85 nationally, #12 in California, and #10 in the Southern Section.

OLu dropped a tight league match against JSerra 3-2 on Thursday dropping them to 1-2 in league play. On Friday and Saturday, the girls competed in the Freeway Games at Corona Santiago. OLu did not drop a set on their way to a perfect 3-0 Friday with wins over West Valley, Hoover, and Bonita. In bracket play, the Lancers dropped their opening game to Santiago forcing them into the consolation bracket. They would win the next 3 matches to finish the weekend 6-1. With 3 weeks remaining in the regular season, the Lancers are 19-7 overall. They sit at #2 in the CIF Division 3 poll.

It was another successful week for the girls golf team. Five girls competed in the Rainbow Sandals Tournament at San Clemente Golf Course on Monday. OLu finished 5th out of 15 teams. Mason Egdahl finished 10th overall shooting a +3 (76). Stella Ferign shot an 81 and Isa Bustamante shot an 82. OLu returned to the course on Tuesday and beat Yorba Linda 199-212. The 199 score was the lowest score by the team in the past 8 seasons. Mason Egdahl was on fire shooting a -3 (33) in the win. Then on Wednesday, they opened league play with a win over Rosary 216-266. The Lancers have won 6 in a row and are currently 8-4. Dan Albano of the OC Register recently wrote an article naming the Lancers in the top 10 in Orange County heading into the final 3 weeks of the season.

Boys Water Polo
It was a two-game week for boys water polo. They fell to open the week against The Bishops 12-10 on Wednesday. On Saturday Harvard Westlake bested the Lancers 13-6. OLu currently sits ranked #4 in the Divison 1 water polo poll.
Girls tennis split their two matches this past week. They fell 13-5 to Yorba Linda on Monday but did open up league play with a win over Rosary on Thursday 14-4. The girls are now 8-3 overall and ranked #4 in the Division 2 CIF poll.
The cross country team was off this past week and will take part in the Trinity League Preview meet on Friday, October 1 at HB Central Park at 9 am.
