Each season we choose one athlete from each program to feature as a part of our Athlete Profiles Series. The first athlete profile of the fall season is football’s senior wide receiver, Michael Puskas.

The OLu football team finished the non-league schedule with an exclamation mark 42-17 victory over Vista Murrieta on Friday night. Senior Jonah Laban had 3 touchdown runs and an interception in the victory. Sophomore Logan Gonzalez threw for 235 yards and 2 scores, including a 64-yard pass to senior Michael Puskas. Senior running back Cooper Vander Hill had 115 yards on 15 carries. The Lancers trailed 7-0 until a blocked punt late in the first quarter changed the momentum. OLu would reel off 42 unanswered points in 20 minutes of play. The win puts OLu’s record at 3-2. The Lancers will open Trinity League play after a bye week when they travel to the Santa Ana Bowl on Friday, October 4 to play Mater Dei.

The girls volleyball team opened Trinity League play this week. Despite battling hard in both matches, OLu fell to Mater Dei and Santa Margarita on the road 3-1. The Lancers are 16-10 overall.

The Lancers opened the week with a 217-254 win over Foothill to improve to 7-2. Sophomore Hannah Batcheller was the medalist with a 40. On Thursday, they traveled to Santa Ana Country Club to open Trinity League play against Mater Dei. The Lancers fell 201-217 despite an even-par 36 from sophomore Hannah Batcheller.

Boys Water Polo
Boys Water Polo beat Woodbridge on Tuesday 17-8. Senior Mason Killion had 6 goals while Riley Catino and Miles Wilson combined for 11 assists. Andrew Barnuevo notched 3 goals in the win. OLu then traveled to the South Coast Tournament from Thursday to Saturday. The Lancers finished 10 overall with wins over Long Beach Wilson, Campolindo, and Palos Verdes. They fell to Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar. OLu is 7-4 on the young season.

The girls tennis team stayed red hot this past week. OLu notched two victories, the first over Esperanza 15-3 and then the second over Valencia 11-7. The two wins run the Lancers win streak to 7. They are 7-1 overall as they open Trinity League play this week.

The girls cross country team was invited to race in the sweepstakes race of the Woodbridge Invitational. The event features only 32 teams from across the country. The Lancers finished 23rd overall. Individually, junior Sophia Guttirez finished 45th overall with a time of 17:27. Sofia Gibson was 92nd.
On the boys side senior Garrett Boezinger finished 5th overall with a 3-mile time of 15:21. Freshman Tayne Patel ran a 16:00 time for 30th overall. Noah Lockwood was 58th while Nathaniel Patton and Ethan Pacholl finished 79th and 80th respectively.
