The Athletics Minute is a recap of the prior week's action in Lancer varsity sports.
The Lancers finished off the non-league schedule with a resounding 42-24 win over Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks on Friday night. After trailing 10-7 after a quarter, OLu rolled off 35 points over the final 3 quarters including 21 unanswered out of halftime to seal the victory. The win propelled the Lancers to a perfect 5-0 record in the non-league schedule. This coming week the Lancers are off before they open Trinity League play vs Servite on Thursday, September 30 at 7 pm.

Girls volleyball opened up Trinity League play this past week. On Tuesday, OLu went to 5 sets at Rosary and came away victorious 3 sets to 2. They fell on Thursday to a strong Mater Dei squad 3-0. On the weekend, the girls took home the Torrance Tournament title. The Lancers didn’t drop a set in pool play and beat Torrance in the final 2 sets to 1. The girls golf team is on a 4 match winning streak after downing Glendora twice this past week. On Wednesday OLu shot a season-low score at Black Gold of 205 to win by 11 strokes. On Thursday, they outlasted Glendora one more time with a tight 4 stroke win 227-231. The Lancers are now 6-4 overall as they open up Trinity League play this week.
Boys Water Polo
The boys water polo team went 5-1 this past week. They opened the week with a 16-7 win over the #14 ranked Mira Costa. They entered the South Coast Tournament on Thursday with an overall record of 3-1. On Thursday, OLu beat San Juan Hills and Oaks Christian to move into the winner’s bracket of the tourney. They would meet Trinity League rival Mater Dei on Friday night and they fell in a tight battle 11-10. On Saturday OLu downed Cathedral Catholic 14-11 which put them in the 5th place game where they beat #2 ranked Harvard Westlake 16-13. OLu is now 7-2 with 2 games this coming week against The Bishops and Harvard Westlake.

It was a perfect 2-0 week for the girls tennis team. The Lancers beat Sunny Hills 10-8 on Tuesday and followed it up with a 13-5 win over El Dorado on Thursday. The win moves the Lancers to a 6-2 overall record. They open Trinity League play on Thursday vs Rosary.
The boys and girls cross country teams were both invited to compete in the rated race of the prestigious Woodbridge Invitational on Saturday night.
The girls went first and placed 25th. The individual places are below:
