The Athletics Minute is a recap of the prior week's action in Lancer varsity sports.
Athlete Profiles
Over the course of each season, one athlete from each sport is selected as a profile athlete. The first two profiles are from the boys and girls cross country teams.

Each week we will have a new profile to share about an athlete from one of our fall sports teams.
Football
OLu opened Trinity League play on Friday night versus Servite. The Friars beat OLu 56-12. The loss drops the Lancers to 5-1 on the year and 0-1 in league play. Next up is a homecoming date against Mater Dei. The kickoff is set for 7 pm at Orange Coast College.

Girls Volleyball
It was a big week for the girls volleyball squad. Sitting at 1-2 in league play through 3 games the Lancers got two big wins over Santa Margarita and Rosary. The wins helped the Lancers jump into 3rd in league play with only 3 matches to play. They sit at 21-7 overall and 3-2 in the Trinity League. They only play once this coming week when they travel to take on league leader Mater Dei on Tuesday night. The match starts at 5:45 pm.

Girls Golf
The girls golf team went 1-1 over the past week. To start the week the Lancers beat Rosary 189-250. The 189 score is the lowest score by the team in the past 8 seasons. Junior Alexia Egdahl shot a season-low -2 (34). OLu took 5 scores in the 30’s in the win. On Thursday, the Lancers 7 match win streak was snapped at the hands of league leader Santa Margarita 185-198. Despite the loss, freshman Mason Egdahl carded a -3 (33), her second under-par round of the season. OLu is now 9-5 overall and 2-1 in league play. Next up is a two-match week with Mater Dei.

Boys Water Polo
The Lancers improved to 10-4 overall after ripping off 3 straight wins this past week. It started with a thrilling 15-14 win down in San Diego county over Cathedral Catholic. OLu then opened the Trinity League season with a 16-3 win over Servite. They capped the week off with at 13-8 win over Oaks Christian. OLu is now 10-4 overall and 1-0 in league play.
This coming week they will host Mater Dei on Wednesday in a crucial Trinity League matchup. That is followed by the Elite 12 tournament on the weekend.

Girls Tennis
The Lancers only played once this past week against Mater Dei on Tuesday against Mater Dei. The Lancers fell 14-4 to a strong Monarchs squad. The loss drops OLu to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in league play.
This week they play JSerra and Santa Margarita on Tuesday and Thursday.
Cross County
The boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Trinity League Preview meet on Friday at Huntington Beach Central Park.
The girls squad finished 3rd out of the 5 league schools with a point total of 68. Sophia Gibson led OLu with a time of 19:59 finishing 10th overall. Caroline Kargenian was 11th with a 20:07 time and Lolo Landrith was 11th at 20:11.
The boys also finished 3rd with a team total of 78. Senior Noah Lockwood cracked the top 10 with a 9th place finish and a time of 16:30. Ethan Pacholl was only 10 seconds behind at 16:40 good for 11th place. Nate Patton posted a sub 17 minute 3 mile run with a 16:58 good for 14th.
This coming weekend the Lancers will travel north to compete in the Clovis Invitational with races set for Saturday morning.

Hockey
The 2021 hockey season kicked off this past weekend for the Lancers who are back to back CAHA Champions. OLu opened it up in style with a 3-1 win over Santa Margarita. Kyle Isenberg had 2 goals to lead the way. Miles Roberts and Caleb Martinez saved 20 shots combined for the victory. The Lancers next take the ice against Pacific Ridge on Saturday, October 9 at Great Park Ice.

The surf team opened up the 2021 competition season on Thursday against Corona del Mar. The Lancers lost 84-83.
