Athlete Profiles
Throughout each season, one athlete from each sport is selected as a profile athlete. This week’s profile is a feature on boys soccer senior Andrew Rodriguez.

Girls Basketball
The Lancers are off to their best start since 2012-2013, with a record of 14-2. OLu won two preseason tournaments; The Lady Spartan Classic and the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions.
OLu opened league play on Thursday night against Mater Dei. OLu trailed 21-7 in the first quarter but outscored the Monarchs 13-3 in the second to close the gap to 4. The Lancers took the lead by 1 with just over 1 minute to go but Mater Dei sank a jumper with 34 seconds left to regain the lead. Mater Dei would sink two more free throws to ice the game and win 48-43. Sheridan Kennedy had 11 points, Bogan had 9, and Taliya McFerson had 8.
The Lancers play Roosevelt this weekend in the Northview Showcase before taking on Sierra Canyon and JSerra next week.
Boys Basketball
Heading into Trinity League play, the Lancers are 10-4. Over Christmas break, they played in the Rancho Mirage Holiday Classic and went 3-1. They had wins over Highland, Heritage, and Hoover.
OLu takes on Mater Dei on Friday night, followed by a Saturday matinee at 3 pm against Servite.
Girls Soccer
This past week, the girls soccer team kicked off league play with games against Rosary and Mater Dei. OLu tied the Royals 1-1 on a late equalizer by Sophia Tagge. They fell to Mater Dei on Thursday 3-1.
The Lancers are now 6-2-4 on the year and 0-1-1 in league play. They have one game next week against JSerra on Thursday, January 13.
Boys Soccer
Coming out of Christmas break, the boys soccer team was 4-6-3. They closed the holiday season with a 1-1-1 record in the SoCal College Showcase. They defeated Cathedral (LA) and tied St. Paul’s before falling to De La Salle.
The Lancers opened league play with Servite on Wednesday. They fell 3-1 to drop to 4-7-3 on the season. They continue league play with a game on Friday verse Mater Dei before taking on Bosco and JSerra next week.
Girls Water Polo
The Lancers took part in the prestigious Holiday Classic after Christmas. OLu went 2-2 with wins over San Juan Hills and Corona del Mar. Their losses came to Foothill and San Marcos.
The girls took on Rosary to open league play and won in a shutout 19-0.
The Lancers will continue their season with games against Newport Harbor and Harvard Westlake this weekend. Next week they take on Martin Luther King and Mater Dei.
Wrestling
We’re just over a month into the 2021-22 wrestling season! The Lancers have competed in the Costa Mesa Classic, Cossarek Classic, and the Blackwatch.
Dominic Lobo is ranked #18 in the state at 138 pounds weight class. Dustin Serizawa is an honorable mention at the 126 weight class and Lance Dunwoody is ranked #35 in the 152-pound weight class.
This is the first time three wrestlers are ranked in the state in school history!
In the Blackwatch, Lobo took home 1st, Serizawa was 3rd, and Dunwoody was 4th.
In the Cossarek Classic, Lobo and Dunwoody placed 3rd, Serizawa was 5th, and Joseph Dervartarian was 6th.
OLu will compete in several more duals this coming month before they head to Trinity League Finals on Friday, February 4
Hockey
After a three-week break, the Lancers hockey team is back in action this weekend when they play Tahoe Prep on Friday at Anaheim Ice and Pacific Ridge on Saturday at Icetown Carlsbad. OLu is currently 8-2 on the season.
Surf
The surf team will compete in league finals on Wednesday, January 12, at the Huntington Beach Pier.
