That is path the Orange Lutheran surf team took when it arrived on campus four years ago.

The Lancers opened Trinity League play with at 68-37 loss to Mater Dei. Tibet Goerner and TJ Tittlefitz each had 11 points. On Friday, OLu picked up their first league win over Santa Margarita 38-32. In what was a gritty defensive affair no Lancer scored in double digits but the defense continually stifled the Eagles. Nikolas Flores led the Lancers with 8 points. The Lancers fell in their final game of the week 66-58 to Redondo Union in overtime of the Ron Massey Classic. Eric Goodrich had 21 points and Yigit Arcan had 17 points in the loss. OLu is 13-4 overall.

The boys soccer team lost both games to open Trinity League play to Mater Dei and Santa Margarita. On Saturday, the JV team beat Mayfair 4-3 with a hat trick from George Choura and another from Andrew Hernandez. In the second game of the day Nathan Marlow scored twice in the 2-2 tie against Schurr.

The girls basketball team took down Santa Margarita in their Trinity League home opener on Tuesday 47-38. OLu trailed by 2 at halftime but outscored the Eagles 29-18 in the decisive second half. Sophomore Talia Sonsma paced OLu with 15 points while fellow sophomores Mikayla Holmes and Ashley Massey each pitched in 9 points. The Lancers are 11-7 overall and 1-1 in the Trinity League.

The girls soccer team lost both games this past week to Santa Margarita and St. Margarets. The JV team won twice with a 2-0 shutout against Mater Dei and a 4-1 win over St. Margaret’s.

Girls Water Polo
The Lancer water polo team started the week off with a thrilling come from behind 7-5 win over Mater Dei to open Trinity League play. OLu trailed 5-1 at the half but came storming back behind 3 goals from Delaney Palmer and 2 each from Sara Naulty and Anna Pearson. Alissa Salgado had 9 saves and 1 steal.
In game 1 of the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions, the Lancers took down Agoura 16-11. Anna Pearson had a career-high 9 goals. OLu continued the tournament on Friday against Newport Harbor and fell in a heartbreaker 10-9. Anna Pearson scored 5 goals in defeat. Allisa Salgado had 4 blocks and a steal. Delaney Palmer played strong defense with 5 steals. Up next was Santa Margarita and for the second straight tourney, the Lancers won this time 8-7. Izzy Gazzaniga, Christiana Marchese, and Anna Pearson netted 2 goals each. The Lancers finished the tourney with a 9-4 win over Carlsbad to finish 5th. Anna Pearson was named to the All-Tournament team. The Lancers are 12-5 overall.

It was a battle between 1st and 2nd in the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League when OLu took on Santa Margarita on Saturday. The Lancers and Eagles played the first 3 periods to a 3-3 tie. In overtime, Jackson Ferry scored 38 seconds in to secure victory. Ferry had 2 goals in the victory while Luc Ghantous and Kyle Lee had 1 a piece. Miles Roberts saved 25 of 28 shots faced. The win gives the Lancers a 5 point cushion atop the league standings. They are 11-0-1-1 on the year with 36 points.

The boys varsity squad competed in the Five Counties Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Junior Zack Stone finished 5th out of 64 participants in this bracket. He went 5-2 on the weekend.
Kacey Schafer competed in the Brea Tournament on Saturday and finished 3rd overall with a 4-1 record.
