The Athletics Minute is a recap of the prior week's action in Lancer varsity sports.
The Lancers are off to a 2-0 start after a 21-7 win over Upland on Friday night. After falling behind 7-0, Logan Gonzalez threw for 3 touchdowns as a part of 21 unanswered points that put OLu on top for good. Jaylen Lynch, Haden Faraday, and Desmin Jackson each had a touchdown reception. Defensively, Gabe Morin was everywhere, accounting for 15 total tackles (4 solo & 11 assisted) along with 2 tackles for a loss. Bryce Brown Johnson had 11 total tackles (4 solo & 7 assisted). The Lancers will look to stay unbeaten when they host Edison this Friday at Orange Coast College. The kickoff is set for 7 pm.

It was only a 1 match week for the girls volleyball team as they headed south to Irvine to play Beckman. OLu fell in the match 3 games to 1. Paige Buzzerio led the team with 12 kills while Viviana Fragoso had 15 digs and Mya Rodriguez had 16 assists.
OLu will have two matches coming up this week when they travel to Foothill on Wednesday and then play Edison in the Trinity League versus Sunset League showdown on Thursday at Los Alamitos High School.

The girls golf team opened with a 2 match week to start the 2021 season. The Lancer fell in both including an extremely close match against Yorba Linda in the opener. OLu lost by 2 strokes and were led by freshman Mason Egdahls +1 (37) and Stella Fergin’s career-low +3 (39). In the second match of the week versus Edison, Egdahl again led the way with another +1 (37) round. It will be a busy upcoming week for the girls as they play 3 matches this week against El Dorado, Edison, and Canyon as the non-league schedule continues.

Boys Water Polo
It was a season-opening win for boys water polo when they defeated Palos Verdes 16-7. This coming week the Lancers host Garces Memorial from Bakersfield at 4 pm at SCC. The match will be live-streamed and can be watched by clicking HERE.

The girls tennis team started their 2021 campaign with two non-league matches against Cypress and Valencia. Both Natalie Rodriguez and Lauren Lee swept all three of their singles matches to propel OLu to victory both days 11-7. The Lancers will carry their 2-0 record into this week when they play Esperanza and Foothill.
