The Athletics Minute is a recap of the prior week's action in Lancer varsity sports.
Football
The Lancers moved to 2-0 with a 24-7 win over Upland on the road last Friday. Sophomore quarterback TJ Lateef threw for 260 yards and 2 touchdowns. Khanrad Hernandez led receiving corps with 6 receptions for 104 yards and 2 touchdowns. Wallace Filemu had 9 tackles and a sack.
OLu will take their perfect record on the road in a showdown with fellow Orange County team Edison on Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7 pm at Huntington Beach High School.
The game will be streamed by NFHS.
Girls Volleyball
The Lancers girls volleyball team went 1-1 over the past week, including a big 5-set win over Newport Harbor on Thursday night in the Trinity vs. Sunset Showcase.
After splitting the first four sets, the Lancers rose up in the final frame. Makalin Goehring supplied three kills and a block in the final frame. Senior outside hitter Paige Buzzerio had 21 kills in the victory, and Londyn Giles chipped in 11 kills. Lily Underwood dished out 20 assists on the night.
OLu is now 8-3 on the season. They will host Ontario Christian on Tuesday in their home opener.

Girls Golf
The girls golf team is off to their best start in years with a 6-0 record. This past week OLu was on the links for four straight matches and came away with four wins. The victories came against Marina, Glendora twice, and El Dorado.
OLu posted their low team score of the season with a 185, +5 as a team, against El Dorado on Thursday.
Junior Jayne Sung stood out this past week, posting scores of E, -1, -2, and -4. She finished the week with a score of -7 over 36 holes.
OLu plays a home and home against Edison this coming week before heading to Palm Springs for a two-day tournament.
Girls Tennis
The girls tennis team dropped both of their matches this past week. They are currently 2-2 on the young season and own wins over Sunny Hills and El Dorado.
They continue the non-league schedule against Brea Olinda and Villa Park this coming week.
Boys Water Polo
In the pool, the Lancers are currently 1-0 after their opening night win over Palos Verdes.
On Friday, OLu is back in the pool against Los Alamitos at 5 pm. That is followed by a trip to LA to take on Harvard Westlake on Saturday at 2 pm.
Cross Country
The Lancers cross country team opens the 2022 season on Saturday morning at the Fastback Invitational at Mt. Sac. Read the season preview.
