Athlete Profiles
Each season, one athlete from each sport is selected as a profile athlete. This week’s profile features senior girls tennis player Ashley Lee.
Football
The Lancers football team fell to JSerra in the regular season finale on Friday night, 20-7. John Gazzaniga threw the lone touchdown pass to AJ Ia late in the 3rd quarter.
OLu finished the regular season 6-4 overall and 2-3 in the Trinity League. The Lancers will find out their playoff draw on Sunday at 10 am. The brackets will be live at cifss.org.
Girls Volleyball
The girls volleyball season ended last Saturday in round 2 of the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs. The Lancers, coming off a round 1 win over Etiwanda, fell to #2 seed Vista Murrieta in straight sets.
The Lancers finished the 2022 season with a 26-12 record.
Girls Golf
On Tuesday, at Los Serranos Golf Course, Alexia and Mason Egdahl competed in the CIF-SS Individuals tournament. Both advanced to CIF via the Trinity League Tournament. Both did not qualify for the CIF Finals but played well in a group of 130+ golfers.
The team will compete in the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs on Monday, October 31, at the Huntington Club. Tee time is 10:30 am.
Hockey
The Lancers will take their 6-3 overall record into a Saturday contest against Cathedral. Puck drop is set for 2:10 pm at Great Park Ice.
Boys Water Polo
In two matches this week, the Lancers split their games going 1-1.
They opened the week against #1 JSerra at home in a game for the Trinity League title. OLu fought hard but came short in a 14-11 defeat.
On senior night against San Clemente, OLu beat the Tritons 23-17.
The Lancers made the Division 1 CIF-SS playoffs and will play Aliso Niguel in round 1 on Wednesday, November 2, at 5 pm. Check out the entire bracket.
Girls Tennis
The girls tennis season wrapped up the regular season this past week with 9 Lancers competing in the Trinty League Finals at JSerra.
The doubles team of sophomores Kara Barry and Nicola Frisch finished 3rd overall, going 3-1. Their efforts earned them 1st team All-League. The duo of junior Gracie Formsma and Chloe Elkhoueiry went 1-1 and finished 2nd team All-League.
Cross Country
At Huntington Beach Central Park on Saturday morning, the Lancers competed in the Trinity League Finals meet.
The girls finished 4th with the individual results as follows:
- Kira Anderson - 19:31 (11th)
- Sarabella Stakley - 19:59 (16th)
- Caroline Kargenian - 20:10 (17th)
- Ashley Miller - 21:55 (24th)
- Carissa Moll - 22:24 (26th)
- Jessica VandenBerg - 23:28 (27th)
Anderson, Stakley, and Kargenian each earned second-team All-League.
The boys finished 5th as a group with the individual results as follows:
- Joseph O’Donnell - 15:48 (9th)
- Hank Reynoso - 16:42 (19th)
- Ronan Santaniello - 17:29 (27th)
- Josh Wonderlick - 17:40 (28th)
- Joel Borton - 18:07 (31st)
- Cameron Krueger - 18:23 (33rd)
O’Donnell’s finish qualifies him for individual CIF and is a 1st team All-League selection. Reynoso’s finish was good enough for 2nd team All-League.
Surf
At the beach, the Lancers fell to Los Alamitos in their lone meet of the week 91-77. OLu is 3-2 and will take on Corona del Mar on Halloween morning.
