The Athletics Minute is a recap of the prior week’s action in Lancer varsity sports.

The Lancers continue to roll as they hit the season’s midway point.
OLu is 12-2 after a three-game sweep of Servite over spring break. They took the first 2 of a three-game set this week against Mater Dei before falling on Friday night.
They opened the series on Tuesday with a 3-1 victory on the road. Casey Borba and Mikey Romero each homered. Chase Cummings was 2-3. Oliver Santos went five ⅔ of an inning with 9 K’s.
In game two, the Lancers used some late-game heroics off the bat of Chase Cummings to notch the win 3-2. OLu entered the bottom of the 6th trailing 2-1, but a Cummings RBI single scored the game-winning run. Louis Rodriguez tossed his first complete game of the season, striking out 14 Monarchs.
On top of the Lancer’s winning form, junior 3rd baseman Casey Borba was named the OC Varsity Boys Athlete of the Week for his great week against Servite. Borba hit two home runs and had 6 RBIs during the three-game sweep.
The OLu softball team is 11-6 overall and ranked in the top 10 in Orange County as they continue Trinity League play.
Brianne Weiss threw her 2nd career no-hitter during spring break, striking out 11 batters in an 11-0 win over Rosary. She was named the OC Varsity Girls Athlete of the Week for her efforts.
The Lancers fell to Mater Dei in a tight battle on Wednesday 3-1.
On Friday afternoon, they bounced back with a big win over JSerra 4-0. Tessa Jerue provided the offense with a three-run homer. Emi Todoroki was 3-4 and Amelia Avila was 2-2. Brianne Weiss earned her 9th win of the season.
The Lancers girls lacrosse team bounced back from 2 straight defeats with a 10-6 win over Segerstrom. The win moves the Lancers to 8-4 overall. OLu has nine games remaining in the 2022 regular season. They are currently ranked #2 in the CIF-SS Division 3 poll.
The boys lacrosse team is 5-3 overall after two wins recently over El Dorado and Poly Riverside. The Lancers are ranked in the CIF-SS poll for the first time in school history, checking in at #4 in Division 3.
Girls Beach Volleyball
The girls beach volleyball team continues their strong start to the inaugural campaign. Thye is currently 5-3 overall, and 4-1 in Trinty League play. The girls have four games left, starting with Mater Dei on March 29.
Track & Field
This past weekend, the Lancers track & field team competed in the Triton Invitational.

- Jaylen Lynch - 200M - 3rd place
- Ford Bruning - Long Jump - 3rd place
Several Lancers will compete in the OC Championships on Saturday at Mission Viejo High School.
The boys volleyball team opened Trinity League play this past week. Following two losses, OLu bounced back with wins over Bosco and JSerra. They are currently 16-4 overall and 2-2 in league play. They will play in the Tesoro Tournament this coming weekend before league play next week.
The boys golf team opened the Trinity League schedule with a bang, beating defending CIF Champion Mater Dei by three strokes. Cooper Nelson, Ian Shahwan, and Dylan Spoolstra each shot one under. The Lancers are 4-1 overall.
The boys tennis team scored back-to-back league wins this past week. They knocked off Mater Dei in a tight match 10-8 before beating St. John Bosco 16-2. They are 2-1 in league play and are 4-5-1 overall.
Swim & Dive
The swim and dive team took on Mater Dei yesterday.

- Boys 200 Medley - 1st place
- Reed Pantaleon - 100M & 200M Free - 1st place (broke 50 seconds in 100M)
- Leo Giessmann - Breaststroke - 1st place
