Athlete Profiles
Throughout each season, one athlete from each sport is selected as a profile athlete. This week's profile features senior girls basketball player Sheridan Kennedy.
Boys Basketball
The boys basketball is on a roll and has risen to the #1 ranked team in Orange County, as published by OC Varsity.
The Lancers continued their hot form on Wednesday night with a 71-54 victory over Servite. The scoring was spread out with 4 in double figures: Zion Paleo 16 points, John Gazzaniga 15 points, David Manea 13 points, and Andrew Nagy 10 points.
OLu fell to Mater Dei in their second game of the week on Friday night.
The Lancers are 16-8, and 5-3 in Trinity League play. OLu is #4 in the Division CIF 2AA poll and was named to the Open Division watch list.
Girls Basketball
The girls basketball team is headed toward the playoffs, as they currently sit with an 18-7 record.
This past week, the Lancers faced fellow Division 1 opponents Rosary and Mater Dei. Tuesday's game with the Royals was a nail-biter, but the Lancers fell by a point 53-52. Mater Dei beat the Lancers 79-43 on Thursday.
OLu has one game left in the regular season against JSerra, before the CIF playoff brackets are announced on Sunday, February 5.
The Lancers are currently ranked #4 in Orange County and #13 in the CIF D1 poll.
Hockey
The Lancers lit up the scoresheet on Friday night against Bellarmine, netting seven goals in a 7-4 win. Ethan Kuehn had a hat trick, and Carson Ferry chipped in 2 goals. Caleb Martinez got the win in net to help the Lancers move to 13-7 overall with one game remaining in the regular season.
OLu is currently 3rd in the league standings heading toward the playoffs.
Girls Water Polo
The girls water polo team is keeping the good times rolling as they competed in the SoCal Tourney this week.
OLu rattled off four straight wins to move into the finals on Saturday night. The Lancers beat Santa Barbra, Murrieta Valley, Corona del Mar, and Santa Margarita on their way to the finals.
The four wins have helped the Lancers get to 20 wins on the season with a 20-2 record overall. They are ranked #2 in the CIF Division 1 poll.
Girls Soccer
With only one game remaining in the regular season, the girls soccer team has secured their second straight winning season. The girls sit at 9-6-2 with a road date remaining with JSerra next Tuesday.
The Lancers picked up their 2nd Trinity League win this past week with a 2-0 victory over Rosary. They fell to Mater Dei on Thursday, rounding out the week 1-1.
The girls soccer playoff brackets are released on Saturday, February 4, at 10 am.
Boys Soccer
The boys soccer team is having its best season in 15 years, with an 11-5-2 overall record. They are 4-3-1 in Trinity League play.
On Wednesday, in a tough match against Servite, the Lancers played tough but fell 2-0.
But OLu bounced back in a big way on Friday against Mater Dei. Following a scoreless first half, the Lancers broke the tie on a Brandon Laytin second-half goal. OLu hung on for a 1-0 win. It was the Lancer's first triumph over Mater Dei since 2016.
OLu is currently ranked #5 in the CIF D4 poll and is hoping for a postseason berth for the first time since the mid-2000s. The boys soccer playoff bracket will be released on Saturday, February 4, at 10 am.
Wrestling
The Lancer wrestling team is headed into playoff season as they will start the trek towards State on Friday afternoon at Trinity League Finals. Any wrestler who finishes in the top 3 of their weight class will advance to the CIF Prelims that begin on Friday, February 10.
