The Athletics Minute is a recap of the prior week’s action in Lancer varsity sports.
Throughout each season, one athlete from each sport is selected as a profile athlete. This week’s profile features girls soccer senior Taylor Bloom.

Each week we will have a new profile to share about an athlete from one of our winter sports teams.
The Lancers split their two contests this past week. They opened the week with a 48-32 win over Brea Olinda in the Matson Classic. OLu used a 28-7 run over the middle two quarters to run away from the Wildcats. Shea Joko led the way with 10 points. Princess Cassell and Taliyah McFerson each had 9.
The Lancers then traveled to Mater Dei on Monday night to continue league play. They fell to the Monarchs 63-47. Joko led all Lancer scorers with 12.
The Lancers are 17-6 overall and 1-4 in league play. They are ranked #1 in the Division 2AA CIF poll.
The boys basketball team played four games in six days, going 2-2.
Last Friday, the Lancers started with a crucial 62-59 win over Servite. Down 5 with 3 minutes to play, OLu outscored the Friars 12-4 to close out the game. Seth Brown led the way with 25 points while Blake Brewer had 12. John Gazzaniga had three blocks and nine rebounds.
Less than 24 hours later, they were back on the court to take on Fairmont Prep. OLu led the whole way comfortably en route to a 79-63 win. In the win, Seth Brown had 40 points, two off a school record, and had seven 3’s.
Next up was a date with Mater Dei on the road. OLu battled hard but fell short 66-52. Cannon Potter and Brown had 13 points.
To close out the week, OLu fell to Bosco on the road 86-67. David Manea led all Lancers with 25 points in defeat.
The Lancers are 14-9 overall and 3-5 in league play.
This past week, the girls soccer team continued league play with bouts against Rosary and Mater Dei.
OLu tied Rosary for the second time this season 1-1 on Saturday and then fell to Mater Dei 3-0 on Monday.
The Lancers are 7-3-6 overall and 1-2-3 in league play. They are ranked #8 in the CIF Division 2 poll.
The boys soccer team lost three games to 3 very tough opponents this past week. OLu fell to Servite, Mater Dei, and Bosco. This coming week, they will wrap up the season with two home tilts against JSerra and Santa Margarita.
The Lancers are now 5-12-4 overall.
Girls Water Polo
Girls water polo headed up north to Santa Barbara last weekend and came away with a very successful 3-0 trip. The Lancers knocked off San Marcos, Dos Pueblos, and Santa Barbara. Back in Orange County, they opened up the Newport Harbor Invite on Thursday with a 13-8 win over Bishops. They continue to play in the tournament this weekend against Carlsbad and Newport Harbor on Friday.
OLu is currently 13-5 overall and are ranked #3 in the CIF Division 1 poll.
Last weekend, the Lancers wrapped up the regular season with a great showing at the Laguna Hills Invite. The following are the results:

OLu will now gear up for the Trinity League finals meet on February 4 at St. John Bosco.
The Lancers went a perfect 3-0 over the past week to move to 12-3 overall on the season.
On their trip up north to San Jose, the Lancers knocked off Tahoe Prep 6-2 and Bellarmine Prep 4-2. Back in Orange County, OLu downed Capistrano 4-3 behind two goals from Brendan Bosca.
OLu has three games left on the season, starting with Damien on Wednesday night.
