Athlete Profiles
Throughout each season, one athlete from each sport is selected as a profile athlete. This week's profile features senior boys soccer player Hayden Snyder.
Boys Basketball
The Lancers boys basketball team remained hot this past week, winning 3 straight games over Oak Park, JSerra, and Santa Margarita to move to 15-7 overall.
On Monday, the Lances erased a 9-point 4th quarter deficit to defeat Oak Park. Andrew Nagy scored the game-winning basket with 5 seconds left.
They followed that up with a 4-point 56-52 win over JSerra on Wednesday to move into sole possession of 3rd place in the Trinity League.
In a battle for second, the Lancers went down to Santa Margarita and overcame an early deficit to squeak out a big win over the Eagles 54-52. The win moved the Lancers league mark to 4-2.
OLu currently sits at #5 in the CIF Division 2AA poll heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.
Girls Basketball
The girls basketball team is closing in on 20 wins after winning four straight games this past week to move to 18-5 overall.
OLu opened the week with a 66-32 victory over Aliso Niguel in the Matson Classic on Saturday. They followed that up with another 30-point win over St. Paul's on Monday.
In league play, the Lancers dispatched of JSerra Wednesday and knocked off Santa Margarita by two on Friday night. OLu is 3-2 in league play.
With two weeks remaining, OLu is #12 in the Division 1 CIF poll.
Girls Water Polo
Coming off a 3rd place finish in the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions, the Lancers were back in the pool on Thursday night in a showdown for first place in the league against Mater Dei.
Junior goalie Lauren Steele was dominant in the cage, saving 13 Monarch shots. OLu used timely offense, including two 4th period goals, to finish off Mater Dei 6-4.
The win pushed the Lancers record to 16-1 overall and 3-0 in league play. A win over JSerra on February 1 would lock up an outright Trinity League title.
The girls remain ranked #1 in both the CIF and OC Varsity polls.
Girls Soccer
With three games remaining in the regular season, the girls soccer team is 8-5-2.
OLu fell in both games this past week but will look to bounce back this coming week when they travel to Rosary and host Mater Dei.
Boys Soccer
The boys soccer team is on the rise.
Following the Lancers 2-0 win over Santa Margarita on Friday afternoon, the Lancers secured the program's first double-digit win season in 15 years. OLu pushed their record to 10-4-2 and 3-2-1 in league play. Earlier in the week, they tied JSerra 1-1.
This coming week OLu hosts Servite and Mater Dei.
OLu is currently ranked #2 in the Division 4 CIF poll.
Wrestling
Tournament season is over for the wrestling team. After several successful events in the preseason, the Lancers will turn the page to the postseason in 2 weeks. Trinity League Finals are slated for February 3. Following league finals, the Lancers will compete in CIF Individuals on February 10.
Hockey
On the ice sheet, the Lancers remain in 2nd place in the ADHSHL standings with 36 points. OLu has been off since January 7. They have two games remaining before the league playoffs in late February. OLu will be back on the ice against Bellarmine on Friday, January 27.
