Athlete Profiles
Throughout each season, one athlete from each sport is selected as a profile athlete. This week’s profile features senior boys golfer Ian Shahwan and junior boys lacrosse player Brady Siok.
Athletics Hall of Fame Profiles
The OLu Athletics Hall of Class of 2023 is set to be inducted on June 24, 2023. We will be sharing a profile article on inductees until the June event. This week’s profile features Lauren Corp ‘09. Check it out!
Baseball
Back in Trinity League play this week, the OLu baseball team swept St. John Bosco in their three-game set.
Tuesday’s game had all the dramatics. Down 6-0 in the top of the 7th, the Lancers hit three home runs and scored 10 to stun the Braves. Josiah Hartshorn hit a home run to get the Lancers going. Derek Curiel then swatted one of his own to tie it at 6. Still tied, sophomore Wyatt Hanoian blasted a three-run bomb to give the Lancers the lead. OLu won 10-6.
On Wednesday, OLu won 9-1. Hartshorn hit another homer. JJ Robles, Brock Wirthgen, and Ben Reiland went 4-10 combined with 7 RBIs. Jordan Cole threw five innings, allowing only three hits.
OLu finished off the series with a 5-3 win on Friday.
The Lancers are 16-8-1 with a three-game set with JSerra remaining. They are ranked #8 in the CIF-SS Division 1 poll.
Softball
For the fourth straight season, the OLu softball team are Trinty League champions! The Lancers defeated Rosary 1-0 on Friday to secure the crown.
OLu started the week with an 11-5 comeback win over JSerra. The Lancers bats were hot, getting 15 total hits. Tessa Jerue had a solo home run, and several Lancers had multi-hit efforts.
They returned home on Wednesday and beat Santa Margarita 1-0. Brianne Weiss threw a no-hitter, her second of the year, striking out 12 Eagles. Chloe McGreevery provided the lone RBI driving in Mak Motis in the 4th inning.
OLu is 19-5 overall and 10-0 in league play. They are ranked #5 in the CIF-SS Division 1 poll.
Girls Lacrosse
On the field, the girls lacrosse team notched a big win, 16-9, over Great Oak on Tuesday to move above .500.
They returned home on Friday to play California high school and won 17-2.
The Lancers have won 4 in a row and are #8 in the CIF-SS Division 3 poll with 2 games remaining.
Boys Lacrosse
The boys lacrosse team fell in two tough league matchups to Mater Dei and Bosco this week.
They are 4-9 overall, with three games remaining in the season's final week.
Boys Volleyball
On the court, the boys volleyball team closed out the 2023 regular season in sole possession of the 3rd place in the Trinity League. The Lancers beat Bosco and JSerra in the season's final week to close the regular season 22-10 and 6-4 in league play.
They will open the CIF-SS playoffs on Thursday, April 27. The draw will be conducted on Saturday, April 22.
Girls Beach Volleyball
The girls beach volleyball team played in Tuesday's 2nd annual Trinity League finals at the Great Park in Irvine. The two Lancer pairs finished in All-League positions.
Boys Golf
It was a spectacular week on the links for the Lancers golf team. At Trinity League finals, 3 Lancers secured CIF-SS individual regional slots finishing in the top 7. You can read the full report here.
Back in league play on Wednesday, the Lancers went down to Arroyo Trabuco and beat JSerra on their home course 195-201.
They followed that up with their marquee win of the season, an even-par 180-190 win over Servite on Thursday. Ian Shahwan shot -4, and Johny Rasmussen shot a -3 in the victory.
OLu is a perfect 8-0 on the season and 4-0 in league play.
Boys Tennis
The boys tennis team notched their 3rd win of the season with a resounding 17-1 victory over Bosco on Wednesday.
The Lancers have 1 match remaining in the 2023 regular season before playing in the Trinity League finals on Tuesday, April 25, and Wednesday, April 26.
Track & Field
At the final regular season track meet of the 2023 school year, the Lancers competed at the OC Championships and the Mt. Sac Relays.
The boys 4x100 team again PR’d with a time of 41.69 and finished in 3rd at the Mt. Sac Relays. They are ranked #5 in the state.
Nic Ling placed 6th in boys pole vault at Mt. Sac. He had a vault of 12’ 6”.
OLu will compete in the Trinity League finals on Friday, April 28, at JSerra.
Swim & Dive
The Lancer swim program wrapped up the 2023 regular season this past Tuesday against JSerra.
OLu will compete in league finals this coming week. Dive finals are on Monday, April 24; swim finals are spread across three days, with prelims on Tuesday and Wednesday and finals on Friday.
