Athlete Profiles
Throughout each season, one athlete from each sport is selected as a profile athlete. This week’s profile features senior boys swimmer Brian Zhu and sophomore diver Makenna Milne.
Athletics Hall of Fame Profiles
The OLu Athletics Hall of Class of 2023 is set to be inducted on June 24, 2023. We will be sharing a profile article on inductees until the June event. This week’s profile features Gabe York ‘12. Check it out!
Baseball
The baseball team returned the diamond this week in the prestigious Boras Classic.
The Lancers beat Maranatha 6-2 in the opener on Tuesday. Evan Miranda was dealing, going six innings and striking out 6. JJ Robles provided the power with a two-run homer. Finnegan Stewart went 3-4.
Wednesday’s semifinal saw OLu take on Norco and win by the same 6-2 score. Casey Borba led the way with a two-run homer and a double. Brock Wirthgen went 2-3, and Nate Savoie had 2 RBIs. Jordan Cole went five innings striking out four and allowing two runs.
OLu fell to Notre Dame Sherman Oaks in the semis, 1-0. Vinny Hudson was superb, throwing six innings and allowing only one run on two hits.
In the tournament's final game, the Lancers faced Aquainas for the second time this season. OLu jumped all over them, scoring seven runs in the first two frames en route to an 8-2 win.
The Lancers finished 3rd in the Boras Classic and are 13-8 overall and 4-4 in league play.
Softball
Back on the diamond on Friday, the Lancer softball team made it nine out 10, beating Santa Margarita 6-3. Tessa Jerue went 2-3 with a 2-run homer and 2 RBIs. Kai Minor had a triple and an RBI, and Mak Motis was 2-4 with an RBI. Freshman Peyton May picked up the win.
The Lancers are 14-5 overall and 5-0 in Trinity League play.
Girls Lacrosse
The girls lacrosse team is back to .500 after a 17-3 win over Segerstrom on senior night.
OLu is currently 8-8 on the season with four games remaining and is ranked #7 in the CIF-SS Division 3 poll.
Boys Lacrosse
The boys lacrosse squad jumped back into the win column in a big way with an 18-9 victory over Esperanza on Wednesday.
OLu is now 4-6 overall, with five games remaining in the regular season.
Boys Volleyball
It was an off week for the Lancers volleyball team following a 2nd place finish at the Kennedy Tournament last weekend.
Heading into the final week of the 2023 season, the Lancers are 20-10 overall and will finish the regular season campaign against Bosco and JSerra. The CIF Playoffs are slated to begin on April 27.
Girls Beach Volleyball
The girls beach volleyball team wrapped up the 2023 regular season with a win over El Dorado. The Lancers finished the regular season at 7-8 overall.
On Tuesday, OLu plays in the second-ever Trinity League finals at the Great Park in Irvine.
Boys Tennis
The boys tennis team has three matches remaining as they head toward the Trinity League finals on April 26. They lost their lone match of the week to La Serna, a tough 10-8 defeat on Tuesday.
Boys Golf
The boys golf team was off this week as they prepare for Trinity League Individual Finals on Monday and Tuesday of next week at Los Serranos Country Club. The top 7 players will represent the Trinity League in the CIF Tournament in May.
STUNT
OLu wrapped up its second-ever STUNT season with a 6-5 record. OLu beat Segerstrom 12-11 before dropping a challenging game to Westminster.
Track & Field
The Lancers competed in the Arcadia Invitational last Friday and Saturday. Arcadia is considered one of the calendar's premier meets, and several standout Lancers took part in the meet.
Matt Kaloustian finished 36th out of 55 runners in the 100M dash. The boys 4x100M relay stole the show running a 41.79 and finishing 3rd out of 71 participants. The boys 800M Sprint Medley placed 5th with a time of 134.24. The boys 4x400M placed 11th out of 38 teams running a 3:21.45.
On the girls side, Amelia Trautman finished 38th in the 400M with a time of 58.71.
Swim
The Lancer swim program has one meet left before the Trinity League finals. They take on JSerra on Tuesday, April 18.
Seniors Wade Sherlock, Sean Hernandez, Kira Anderson, and Sara Naulty will look to finish out the season strong with a CIF berth. Several OLu relay groups will also be looking to qualify for CIF at the league finals on April 28.
