The Athletics Minute is a recap of the prior week’s action in Lancer varsity sports.
Throughout each season, one athlete from each sport is selected as a profile athlete. This week’s profile features senior girls lacrosse player Brooklyn Rhea.

Next week, the Orange Lutheran baseball team is headed to the NHSI, coming off a 3-game sweep over St. John Bosco.
OLu bested the Braves 9-4 on Tuesday behind Oliver Santos. Santos went four innings striking out 4. Casey Borba, Derke Curiel, and Chase Cummings each had two hits.
Back at it on Wednesday, Jordan Cole and Ross Clark combined for a two-hit shutout as OLu blanked the Braves 5-0. Curiel was 1-3 with 2 RBIs.
Louis Rodriguez pitched six innings in the final game, only allowing two hits as OLu again won 5-0. Evan Miranda closed the game out.
OLu is headed to Cary, North Carolina, to compete in the NHSI tournament with a 15-2 overall record. The Lancers are three-peat champions.
The Lancers are competing in the prestigious Michelle Carew Classic this week. OLu won both of their opening-round games on Wednesday.
The girls knocked off Saugus 7-2 to open the tournament. Brianne Weiss earned win number 10, striking out 11 batters. The Lancers had 11 hits. Kiki Estrada, Tessa Jerue, Mya Diaz, and Makayla Motis each had two.
In the nightcap, OLu shut out Vista Murrieta 8-0. Morgan Hamblin earned her first varsity victory. Estrada, Jerue, and Emi Todoroki hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the win.
They are into the quarterfinals against Villa Park on Friday afternoon.
Girls lacrosse had one game this past week, and it was a 22-0 win over Riverside Poly. Ten different Lancers scored in the victory. The Lancers are 9-4 overall as they approach Trinity League play.
They are currently ranked #10 in the CIF-SS Division 3 poll.
This past week, the boys lacrosse team won both of their games to move to 7-3 overall. They knocked off University on Monday 8-3. They then returned to take on Crean at home in a battle of top 5 teams in Division 3. The #5 Lancers beat Crean 6-4.
OLu opens up Trinity League play next Tuesday against Servite.
Girls Beach Volleyball
The beach volleyball team lost their lone match of the week to Mater Dei. They have two matches remaining before the end of the season tournament.
Track & Field
The Lancers Track & Field team continues to pile up great results. Last weekend at the Orange County Championships, OLu had two individual winners: Jaylen Lynch (400M) and Rebel Tuinuknafe (Shotput). As a team, the boys took 3rd overall, and the girls finished 4th.

Next up for Track & Field is the Trabuco Hills Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
On Wednesday, the boys volleyball team is 17-10 overall after a tough 5 set defeat against Santa Margarita. OLu is 2-3 in league play as they embark on the season’s final five games, starting today with Servite at home.
The Lancers are off to a hot start on the course with a 5-2 overall record. OLu knocked off Bosco to open the week 194-201. They fell in a tough contest against Santa Margarita on the road.
They will play in Trinity League individual finals on Monday and Tuesday of next week.
On the court, the boys tennis team dropped their only match of the week 12-6 to JSerra. The Lancers are 4-6-1 overall as they continue Trinity League play next week against Servite.
Swim & Dive
In the lone contest of the week, the OLu boys swim team won over Bosco 116-54. Both the girls and boys teams compete in the OC Championships on Friday and Saturday at JSerra.
