Fall Sports Wrap Up

With the 2018 fall sports season complete, we take a look back at how Orange Lutheran’s varsity squads finished across six sports.

Football

It was another trip to the CIF-SS playoffs for the Lancers this year whose 5-5 overall record earned them a Division 1 at-large bid. Despite a first round playoff exit to Corona Centennial, a total of 12 players were named either 1st Team or 2nd Team All-Trinity League, including quarterback Ryan Hilinski, who will be joined by wide receiver Kyle Ford as they represent Team West in the All-American Bowl on January 5, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas.

Girls Volleyball

With a third place finish in the Trinity League this year, girls volleyball represented OLu in the opening round of Division 2 CIF-SS playoff action, falling to Notre Dame High School of Sherman Oaks in four sets. Junior Morgan Snider along with senior Dani Bryant, a Wendy’s High School Heisman winner and Biola University commit, were named 1st Team All-Trinity League. Junior Amanda Albertini and sophomore Mia Jerue were named to the league’s 2nd Team.

Girls Tennis

Down to the wire, it took a thrilling final league match against JSerra for the Lady Lancers tennis team to secure third place in Trinity League and a trip to the Division 1 CIF-SS playoffs. Although they lost to San Marino High School in the first round, senior Kenna Tanner and freshman Lauren Lee were named 1st Team All-Trinity League, and senior Victoria Morales and freshman Natalie Rodriguez were named 2nd Team All-Trinity League.

Girls Golf

It was a landmark season for the OLu girls golf team as they qualified for CIF-SS playoffs for the first time in 14 years, representing the Central Division. Los Serrano Country Club’s North Course was the site of their playoff round, and despite not advancing in team play, the future is bright for this young, up-and-coming squad.

Cross Country

After a strong season for both OLu cross country teams, it was the girls squad who advanced on to Division 4 CIF-SS with an at-large berth. Led by sophomore and 1st Team All-Trinity League honoree Sophia Gutierrez, the girls’ fourth place team finish at CIF prelims earned them a spot in the CIF finals race, where they finished 10th. Nicole Meyer also earned 1st Team All-League honors, and Sofia Gibson, Lauren Landrith, Ellie Ainsworth, Aiden Glicker and Garrett Boezinger were named 2nd Team All-League.

Boys Water Polo

In the pool, the Lancers boys water polo team finished the season 3-2 in Trinity League play, securing third place. After a win over Ventura High School in a Division 2 CIF-SS wild card match, OLu lost to Damien High School in Round 1 of the CIF-SS playoffs. Juniors Riley Catino, Mason Killion and Miles Wilson were named 1st Team All-Trinity League, while junior Cameron Burns and freshman Donnie Robertson were 2nd Team All-League honorees.
